Welsh artist Bronwen Lewis, who initially covered Dolly Parton’s songs in Welsh out of passion, recently achieved a significant milestone by collaborating with the iconic country musician herself.
Lewis, a talented singer-songwriter from Wales, began sharing her renditions of Parton’s tracks online approximately two years ago. Her interpretation of “Jolene” attracted the attention of Parton’s niece, singer Jada Star, leading to a collaboration with the country music legend.
Describing the experience as surreal, Lewis expressed gratitude for Parton’s belief in the project, which resulted in a new Welsh rendition of “Jolene.” The track, featuring vocals in Welsh from Parton, was released on major streaming platforms on Friday. This release marks Parton’s second posthumous song and one of her final recordings before her passing at the age of 80 in August.
Star, appreciative of the opportunity, highlighted the significance of the collaboration and hoped that listeners would embrace the song as much as they did. Reflecting on Parton’s musical legacy, Lewis emphasized the authenticity and emotional depth of Parton’s work, which she felt resonated perfectly with the Welsh language.
The collaboration between Lewis, Star, and Parton holds a special place in Welsh culture, with Lewis expressing pride in showcasing the Welsh language on a global stage. She underscored the universal nature of heartbreak and the importance of embracing similarities among people, irrespective of language or background.
