The upcoming golf events are set to captivate fans, with the Canadian Women’s Open beginning in Edmonton, the FedEx Cup playoffs continuing in St. Louis for men, and the uncertain future of the rebel LIV league. Here’s what you need to know:
**Canadian Women’s Open:**
Known as the CPKC Women’s Open, the LPGA Tour’s Canadian stop returns to Edmonton’s Royal Mayfair after eight years. The tournament boasts a $2.75 million prize pool, with $412K going to the winner. Notable absentees include top-ranked Nelly Korda, while fan-favorite and Canadian champion Brooke Henderson will aim for another victory.
Among the six top-10 golfers participating, Lydia Ko is eyeing her fourth Canadian Open title, having previously triumphed at Royal Mayfair in 2013. A strong Canadian contingent, including promising teenagers like Aphrodite Deng and Clairey Lin, adds to the excitement of the event.
**FedEx Cup Playoffs:**
As the women’s season extends, the PGA Tour is reaching its climax with the BMW Championship in St. Louis, where the top 30 in the season-long points chase will advance to the Tour Championship in Atlanta. Scottie Scheffler’s dominant performance in the St. Jude Championship secured him the top spot in the points race and a hefty bonus.
Although Canadian players like Sudarshan Yellamaraju, Corey Conners, and Nick Taylor didn’t advance further in the playoffs, they still earned substantial bonuses. The intense competition and lucrative winnings make the FedEx Cup playoffs a must-watch for golf enthusiasts.
**LIV League:**
The LIV Golf season faces uncertainty as it nears its end, with the league’s future hanging in the balance after losing Saudi backing. Despite Jon Rahm’s individual success, the fate of the team trophy remains undecided. CEO Scott O’Neil is scrambling to secure new investors for a revamped tour, raising questions about the league’s sustainability and the loyalty of its star players.
