A new train station on the Eastern main line, the first in a century, is set to open four months ahead of schedule. The station, costing £175 million, will welcome passengers starting next week. Beaulieu Park marks a significant milestone as the first station added to this section of the UK rail network since the 1920s. Located near Chelmsford, Essex, the station is part of an eco-friendly project.
Martin Beable, Managing Director of Greater Anglia, expressed excitement for the station’s opening, highlighting its importance as the first new station on the Great Eastern Main Line in over a century. Beaulieu Park station will offer a reliable service with up to four trains per hour during peak times and two trains per hour during off-peak hours, aiming to simplify and enhance rail travel for passengers.
Councillor Louise McKinlay of Essex County Council praised the station’s role in reshaping travel in Chelmsford and surrounding areas, emphasizing the county’s commitment to strategic growth and infrastructure development. The station’s construction progress has been commended, with expectations of positive long-term impacts on transportation in the region.
The introduction of the new station is anticipated to alleviate congestion at the existing Chelmsford train station and reduce traffic flow into the city center. Positioned in the Beaulieu and Channels neighborhoods, part of the Chelmsford Garden Community, the station aligns with plans for extensive residential and commercial developments in the area.
In addition to the homes already built and planned within the Garden Community, future developments include additional housing, educational facilities, employment spaces, and enhanced pedestrian and cycling routes. Beaulieu Park Station is poised to facilitate accessibility to job opportunities, fostering economic growth and attracting further investments to the region. Anticipating high passenger demand, Beable foresees the station becoming a favored choice for travelers in Essex.
