In Edinburgh, a bold act was caught on camera as two individuals were seen taking a tumble dryer from a stranger’s driveway. The incident took place in Silverknowes last Friday while the homeowner was away for several hours. According to the homeowner, the footage shows two men walking onto the property and taking the tumble dryer without permission.
The homeowner intended to gift the old appliance to a family member after purchasing a new one. The tumble dryer had been placed outside as the owner had replaced it with a newer model inside and had arranged to give it to her niece.
However, during a brief absence of about 40 minutes, the two men seized the opportunity to take the dryer from the property. Police in Scotland have been informed of the incident, and investigations are currently underway.
The resident of Silverknowes explained to Edinburgh Live that she had replaced her old working tumble dryer with a new one. Due to a delayed pickup service, she had placed the old dryer outside for collection. Her niece expressed interest in the appliance, and she had agreed to give it to her if it was suitable for her space.
While the homeowner was briefly away meeting friends, the two men entered the property and took the dryer, despite her car being in the driveway. The homeowner expressed concern about the theft, highlighting a recurring issue of unauthorized individuals taking items of value without permission.
A spokesperson from Police Scotland confirmed that a report of theft from a property in Silverknowes was received on Friday, October 10, 2025, and investigations are ongoing.
