“Fatal Shooting Escalates Family Feud on Greek Island”

Published:

Two individuals lost their lives and at least six others sustained injuries on Saturday in a shooting incident that occurred on the Greek island of Crete.

The tragic event unfolded shortly after 11 am and was ignited by a longstanding family dispute in the village of Vorizia, located 32 miles south of the island’s main city, Heraklion.

Confirming the fatalities, authorities stated that a 39-year-old man and a 56-year-old woman perished during the gunfire exchange. Emergency services rushed six other individuals, with wounds of varying severity, to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Police disclosed that two injured men are currently hospitalized and under surveillance as their involvement in the armed conflict is being probed.

The gunfight prompted a significant deployment of security forces and emergency response teams to the remote mountain village, where a preliminary investigation has been launched by authorities.

Reports indicate that the incident is part of an ongoing feud between two local families and follows a recent explosion at a construction site on Friday night, where fortunately no injuries were reported.

According to Greek public broadcaster ERT, the families had previously clashed over grazing lands, which were resolved through private mediation, a customary practice in rural areas of Crete. Tensions reignited last year when a member of one family acquired land to construct a residence in an area predominantly controlled by the other family.

The house affected by the explosion on Friday was allegedly erected on this disputed piece of land.
