Former Teacher Sentenced: 10 Years for Sexual Misconduct

Published:

A 30-year-old teacher named Carissa Jane Smith has been sentenced to a 10-year jail term for engaging in sexual activities with students in exchange for money, drugs, and alcohol. Smith, a former substitute teacher, was apprehended in November of the previous year and faced charges of statutory rape and child sex trafficking, among others. She admitted to reduced charges in September following her arrest on 19 counts.

During the court proceedings, disturbing accusations emerged, such as a student claiming that Smith coerced him into ejaculating inside her. Another student alleged that Smith destroyed his phone when he threatened to expose a video of her engaging in oral sex. In a separate incident, a student was reportedly lured by a classmate under the pretense of earning money, only to be taken to Smith’s residence for exploitation while the acquaintance waited outside.

Furthermore, it was revealed that Smith’s husband had threatened a student with a baseball bat after learning of potential blackmail involving a video of Smith and the student smoking marijuana. One victim disclosed that the illicit encounters with Smith began while he was in middle school and she was substituting for his class in August 2023. Police documents indicated that Smith shared her Snapchat username with students, sending them explicit images.

Law enforcement officials reported that Smith engaged in sexual acts with students not only at her home but also at various locations, including gravel roads, multiple times over a year. The Dixon School District condemned Smith’s alleged actions as “disturbing and distressing.”
