Jake Paul’s promotional company has issued a statement in response to allegations against his scheduled opponent, Gervonta Davis, involving battery, false imprisonment, and kidnapping by an ex-girlfriend.
The upcoming exhibition fight between Paul and Davis in Miami on November 14 has sparked controversy due to the serious accusations against Davis, who competes in the lightweight category compared to Paul’s cruiserweight status. While the match will not affect their professional records, a winner will be determined through stoppage or by a panel of two human judges and an AI official if the fight goes the distance.
Amid calls for the bout to be canceled, reports indicated that Paul reached out to Ryan Garcia as a potential replacement for Davis. However, Most Valuable Promotions, Paul’s company, clarified that no decision has been finalized yet.
Most Valuable Promotions stated, “Following the civil lawsuit filed against Gervonta Davis on October 30, 2025, our company immediately launched an investigation. We are currently in the process of gathering information and thoroughly reviewing the case to ensure any future actions are carefully considered. We strongly denounce violence in any form and are dedicated to handling this matter with integrity and sensitivity. Further decisions will be made after completing our assessment and consulting with relevant parties. Until then, we will refrain from additional comments.”
Davis has not responded to the accusations, but his trainer, Calvin Ford, dismissed them as baseless. The lawsuit alleges that Davis assaulted his ex-partner, Courtney Rossel, at her workplace on October 27 and had previously made death threats. Rossel also claims that Davis physically attacked and choked her on multiple occasions, seeking $50,000 in damages and a trial by jury.
Although there were considerations for Garcia to step in for Davis, the fight is unlikely to happen due to contractual obligations. Paul may postpone his ring return to December and has been linked to a potential matchup with heavyweight Anthony Joshua, although finalizing a deal on short notice seems improbable.
