“River Island Recalls Handbag Over Lead Hazard”

Published:

River Island has issued a product recall due to a potential chemical hazard associated with one of its products. The Pink Floral Heat Seal Droplet Bucket Handbag has been withdrawn from sale after testing revealed high levels of lead in the gold chain, which can be harmful if exposed to the body. Lead exposure poses risks to various organs, including the kidneys and circulatory system, with pregnant women being particularly vulnerable. The item in question is identified by the code 927917.

In an online notice, River Island explained that the decision to recall the product was made following rigorous testing that detected lead levels above safety standards in the handle. While the affected areas are small, they are accessible during use, leading to the product not meeting the brand’s safety criteria. Customers are urged to discontinue using the handbag and make arrangements for its return. River Island emphasized that although the risk of harm is deemed low, lead toxicity can cause health issues if ingested over extended periods. As a precautionary measure, the company is recalling the product immediately to prioritize customer safety.

Customers are advised to cease using the handbag and store it safely until it can be returned. River Island expressed regret for any inconvenience caused and assured customers of a full refund upon return of the item.

For returns, customers can send the product to River Island Customer Service Parcels Freepost, MK17 8EW, for both in-store and online purchases. Questions can be directed to customer.services@river-island.com or by calling 03445 766 444.

To stay informed about other product recalls, consumers can check the Food Standards Agency (FSA) and Chartered Trading Standards Institute websites. It is also recommended to be vigilant for recall notices in stores where products have been removed from shelves due to safety concerns.

Several other products have recently been recalled, including Tesco’s Celery Fruit and Nut Salad 300g, which failed to declare mustard as an ingredient, potentially endangering individuals with mustard allergies. Affected batches with a use-by date of December 2 can be returned to Tesco for a refund.

In separate incidents, Kendamil infant milk and the Petiyark Neoprene Swim Vest sold on Amazon have also been recalled due to safety issues. Kendamil products were flagged for a date-related problem, while concerns were raised about the swim vest’s potential drowning risk and lack of visibility in water.
