“Tragic Loss: Elderly Couple Found Dead After Thanksgiving Trip”

A tragic incident unfolded as a married couple, Linda and Gary Lightfoot, were discovered deceased after becoming lost on their way home from a Thanksgiving gathering. The couple, aged 81 and 82, went missing when they failed to return to Lubbock, Texas, after departing from Panhandle, Texas. Despite having made the trip multiple times before, they encountered difficulties finding their way back this time.

Five days later, the bodies of Linda and Gary were found on a ranch in Quay County, New Mexico. Authorities located them following a report of a potential sighting of their vehicle. The couple, who left their cell phone at home, seemingly took a route through Amarillo instead of the more direct path to Lubbock.

The Quay County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the tragic discovery, stating that both individuals were found deceased at the scene. Autopsy reports, detailing the cause and manner of death, are anticipated to be finalized within approximately three months.

The Lightfoots, remembered by family as compassionate individuals, leave behind a legacy of love and dedication. Gary, a military veteran and former law enforcement officer, was praised for his woodworking skills, creating intricate pieces with a scroll saw. Linda, who had worked in the oil and gas industry and banking, was known for her generosity in giving cards and gifts for various occasions.

The couple, known for their kindness and devotion, are survived by their son, Gregg, Linda’s sister Barbara, her husband Waylon, and several nieces and nephews. The family expressed gratitude towards the search efforts and stressed the importance of being prepared while traveling to potentially prevent similar tragedies in the future.
