Former Prince Andrew is facing criticism from US lawmakers for his lack of response as they intensify their investigation into the deceased billionaire pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew, who has been stripped of his royal titles and is nearing the departure from his 30-room Royal Lodge mansion, has been urged by US officials to provide testimony regarding his close relationship with Epstein. Epstein died by suicide in prison in 2019 while facing charges of sex trafficking and conspiracy. Despite vehemently denying all allegations against him, Andrew has not complied with the request for a transcribed interview from the House Oversight Committee, the primary investigative body in the House of Representatives.
Although the committee lacks the authority to compel non-US citizens or foreign nationals residing outside the US to testify, Andrew did not face a legal obligation to respond. Following Andrew’s title removal by King Charles and the release of Virginia Giuffre’s posthumous memoir detailing her traumatic experiences with Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, tensions have escalated. Giuffre, who accused Andrew of sexual assault on multiple occasions when she was a teenager, is no longer alive to provide further testimony. This development coincided with Donald Trump signing legislation permitting the release of the Epstein files, following significant pressure and legislative actions.
In the wake of relinquishing his titles, Andrew’s ex-wife Sarah Ferguson also renounced her titles and continues to reside with Andrew at Royal Lodge for the time being. However, plans are in place for Andrew to relocate to a property on the Sandringham estate, with Fergie expected to find alternative accommodations. Reports suggest that their current living arrangement is strained, with Fordwich noting Sarah’s anxiety about the future. Amid public backlash and disassociation from charities, Sarah and Andrew are reported to be living separately within Royal Lodge, engaging in discussions about their individual uncertain futures.
