Defending champions Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson secured two wins on Thursday at the Montreal Elite event on the FIVB Beach Pro Tour. The Toronto pair defeated Carolina Horta and Ana Patricia Ramos of Brazil with scores of 21-12 and 21-12 in their first match. They followed this with a 21-13, 21-16 victory against Monika Paulikiene and Aine Raupelyte from Lithuania.
Having previously claimed victory in 2023 and 2025, Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson are aiming for a third consecutive title. In the absence of the 2024 tournament in Montreal, where they lost to Ramos and Eduarda (Duda) Lisboa in the gold-medal match at the Paris Olympics, the pair sought redemption by outscoring the Brazilians 26-18 on attack points and 8-1 on serves.
Meanwhile, Lea Monkhouse from Mississauga, Ont., and local favorite Marie-Alex Belanger from Saint-Alphonse-Rodriguez, Que., faced a defeat against Tina Graudina and Anastasija Samoilova from Latvia with a score of 21-15, 21-15.
In the men’s competition, Samuel Schachter from Richmond Hill, Ont., and Jonathan Pickett from Wiarton, Ont., played two matches each, while Cameron Chadwick from Barrie, Ont., and Steven Abrams from Georgetown, Ont., suffered two losses.
The tournament will continue until Sunday at Parc Jean-Drapeau.
