Published:

A father in deep distress witnessed police rescuing his surviving child following the tragic stabbing deaths of his other two children in a Stafford residence.

The Staffordshire Police responded to an incident on Corporation Street early Sunday morning, where two youngsters, identified as Meraj Ul Zahra, aged two, and Abdul Momin Alfaateh, three, were discovered unresponsive with injuries. Despite medical efforts, the children were pronounced dead on-site.

Another child, reportedly a boy, was found alive at the scene. Witnesses noted that the father was too overwhelmed to transport the child to the police vehicle.

Authorities have disclosed that a 43-year-old woman from the Stafford area has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody. The case has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to prior police interactions, as confirmed by Staffordshire Police.

A local resident mentioned, “The initial indication that something was amiss was the sound of sirens. Later, I observed the elder child being taken away in a police car. The father was too distraught to manage, so the police assisted in moving the child. It’s truly heartbreaking; they were delightful children. It’s incredibly shocking to have such an event happen so close to home.”

Another community member expressed, “Waking up to this news sent a shiver down my spine. It’s a dreadful shock, simply horrible.”

Detective Inspector Kirsty Oldfield conveyed, “We are diligently investigating the events leading to the tragic loss of these two children. We urge individuals not to speculate at this time, as it can be distressing for the family and impede our inquiries.”

“We acknowledge that this incident might cause apprehension in the local community. Presently, we do not perceive a broader threat to public safety. A cordon has been established at the residence on Corporation Street.”

A spokesperson from the West Midlands Ambulance Service stated, “Upon arrival, our medical team found two child patients. Sadly, it was evident that nothing could be done to save them, and they were pronounced deceased at the scene.”

Two ambulances and two paramedic officers were dispatched to the location, as confirmed by the West Midlands Ambulance Service.
